A new year means a new chance to revamp your home design, and gorgeous new examples of shutters in homes in New Brunswick and across the country. It also means a new winner for our Share Your Shutters contest, and the winner for January 2017 is Elk Grove, California homeowner Katie S. for her Polywood® plantation shutters.

Elk Grove in Northern California is just one of several towns around the U.S. in which homes can benefit from Polywood shutters no matter the time of year. Even when somewhat open like in Katie’s photo submission, plantation shutters block a good amount of sunlight from flooding into the home. In Elk Grove or in New Brunswick, that’s a good thing for any design-minded homeowner who wants a lot of customizability in their space.

Plantation shutters also block thermal energy, which means they’re perfect for homeowners who experience blistering summers or frigid winters, or who just want to improve their home’s energy efficiency. That adds up to a cozier home and cash back in your pocket every month with reduced energy bills.

Katie’s shutters also capitalize on some newer home design trends. Neutral-toned backgrounds such as her tan wall are becoming exceedingly popular, with contrasting splashes of colors–in Katie’s home the white of the Polywood shutters–providing points of interest throughout the space. Available in a range of white and off-white hues, plantation shutters can fill a nice role in contemporary interior design.

As the winner of our Share Your Shutters contest, Katie wins a $100 gift card to a nearby restaurant, as well as getting her plantation shutters featured with our past winners.
