What To Expect At Your New Brunswick In-Home Shutter Consultation

March 26, 2019

As you start the window treatment buying process, some companies, like Sunburst, send out a rep for an in-home consultation. By bringing samples to you, we can show you how different window treatments would work in your room. This conversation makes it easier to envision your options and makes you feel great about your decision.

But what actually goes on during an in-home consultation? And how will meeting a representative in your home allow you to better choose the perfect window treatment? Even though every in-home consultation is a personalized experience, there are some things that you should experience.

Stepping Through A Typical In-Home Shutters Consultation

A couple choosing between window treatment samples.

Start by making an appointment by contacting your local representative. If you already know what window covering you want, like our Polywood® plantation shutter, then we will make a special note to show you some options available for your preferred treatment. We will also offer alternatives, so you can know that your windows match your ideal.

When we arrive, we’ll sit down and talk about what you are looking for in a window treatment. We’ll cover issues like your lighting, privacy, and energy efficiency preferences, and we’ll discuss hard-to-reach or specialty-shaped windows. Your rep will also inquire about how your windows are used and what ambiance you are trying to acheive. The end target is to complety conceptulaize what your windows will ultimately look like with the coverings installed.

That may require going through different window treatments and contrast each window treatment against each other. Most clients need to try out a few different ideas, like comparing Polywood with our real-wood Ovation® shutters or picking the perfect stain to match the room. We’ll also find all the options available for the shutter, shade, or blind, like available colors, louver sizes, or hidden tilt-rods.

After you decide on a treatment, we’ll find the exact measurements of your windows. We will typically measure the windows in each room—even if you only plan to make a purchase for some of your windows. We perform this service because many of our clients want to be able to order future shutters or blinds quickly. At the end of the appointment, we will thoroughly explain the detailed, written quote, so there are no surprises on your invoice.

Red Flags For A Subpar In-Home Shutter Consultation

While we are confident that Sunburst will give you compentent in-home consultation, there are some things you should never witness from any window treatment salesperson. After all, the quality of the consultation mirrors the quality of the product.

First, your rep should be careful and professional. He or she should show up as scheduled, clean and presentable, and offer to prevent floor scuffs with shoe booties. Your consultant should always give you product and company pamphlets and pricing details.

In regards to pricing, you should expect a detailed written quote. Don’t accept a large pricing range, jotted down on a blank page or the back of a business card. And never accept pricing information without window measurement. You should always be able to follow how much you should pay and why. If a quote ever seems too good to be true, simply ask for references and search for the company’s online reviews.
